Hi, my name is Kaitlyn Pillig. I love teaching preschool and I think my art background gives me a unique opportunity to create and explore freely with my students! I hope to provide authentic and engaging art experiences for my young learners. In my free time I am a ceramic artist and I love to take care of my vegetable garden. This year I am growing five varieties of potatoes!
The research question for my thesis is: What are parents’ opinions on the role of art education within our current educational landscapes? I believe parents are an important ally in the battle for art education, and we must consider their opinions on what art education looks like to them. I wish to speak directly to parents through surveys and interviews to hear what they have to say about art education and their students. I think one of the interesting things to come out of the past two years is the push toward social-emotional learning (SEL), and I am interested to see what parents have to say about SEL and how the arts can be used to promote it. I hope that this research encourages parents to take a more active role in their children’s art education and therefore fight for the arts when they are threatened in their student’s school.
