Connor Fellowship Highlight: Meet Kelsey Koch!

Connor Fellowships are awarded to current grad students seeking to make a positive impact on the Art Ed Department here at City College, and on the larger citywide art education community! This post is part of a series introducing Fall 2023 Connor Fellows.

Meet Kelsey Koch, who is supporting the department through their project on open studio days:

Mx. Koch’s Connor Fellowship Project will offer a series of open studio days designed to support the CCNY Art Education community. The studio hours will provide dedicated time, space, and refreshments to facilitate colleagues’ connection and mutual support. Due to busy schedules and long commutes, it can be challenging for art educators to connect outside of class. The studio will be open for both visual creative projects and pedagogical work, allowing colleagues to come together and share tips on lesson plans, test new ideas, and expand their toolkit. Mx. Koch aims to regularly facilitate this space throughout the spring semester of 2024.

Kelsey Koch is an artist who teaches (or a teacher who arts) with the MFA Art Education program at CCNY. Their academic curiosities include exploring the artistic choices of young children, promoting recreational art for adults aged 18-65, and utilizing storytelling to enhance meaning. In their personal work, Mx. Koch often incorporates tactile materials, vibrant colors, and playful subject matter. Their work was recently included in the Fall 2023 Art Education Graduate & Alumni exhibition, and they are proud to serve as an officer of the CCNY Arts Education club, which brings together students from the Art Education and Educational Theater departments.
