This school year, we revived the CCNY Art Ed Community Art Jams which began in 2020 in a virtual gathering space during the pandemic. Art Jams are dedicated “time containers” for community building + art making. This can look like zooming in from your art studio to chat with the virtual group for a bit before launching into your own projects, or working on a community art project in Shepard Hall. For each Jam, there’s time for meeting, greeting, announcements, getting grounded, & making art (plus killer playlists!).
Beginning in Fall 2021, our team of two held a monthly in person art jam on campus, plus weekly virtual art jams. The number of attendees rose and fell depending on the NYC DOE calendar, since many of the community are school teachers.
This Spring, we enjoyed a small but steady Zoom gathering of folks — CCNY people and invited friends. Each week we began by sharing what we intended to work on in the jam session and at the end would take a screenshot of people and their projects.
