Connor Fellowships are awarded to current grad students seeking to make a positive impact on the Art Ed Department here at City College, and on the larger citywide art education community! This post is part of a series introducing Fall 2023 Connor Fellows.
Meet Sabine Ansay, who is supporting the department through her project on guiding museum walks/tours:
Within the fields of Art Education and/or Museum Education, an overall understanding of various education styles can be beneficial, especially those pertaining to museums. I think our program could use more museum engagement because many of us have at least considered, or directly plan on working in museums. I understand that art museums may be at the forefront of our concentrations, but learning about all types of museums and their educational processes provides a well-rounded perspective.
I currently work at the Intrepid Museum and the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum. I have very good ties with both institutions and could establish opportunities for guided tours from their education departments. I work as an Interpretive Guide at the 9/11 Museum and could even present a tour myself to those of our department and answer questions regarding our methodology and training curriculum. For now, it may be simpler to choose one museum or the other, but this could change over time. Most of my organizing for this project would take place between me, my program director, and the directors of my departments at either the Intrepid or 9/11 museum. When tours are completely approved, an email would be sent to the Art Education and Museum Education departments about the opportunity.
